Foreign Minds, Lithuanian Business: speed, closeness and the value of relationships

On 27 October, BMI Alumni Executive Club, in partnership with People Link, hosted an open discussion at BMI Executive Institute on leadership, communication and cultural differences in Lithuanian business.

Four executives whose careers were shaped across different countries and business environments shared their experience of leading in Lithuania: Antonio Pineda (BALTO print), Catalin Manolache (Nordian Group), Renato La Fianza (ex-CEO of PayRay Bank) and Valdas Sirutis (finance transformation and GBS professional). The conversation was moderated by Paulina Svirnelytė, Head of Executive Search at People Link.

The speakers agreed that one of Lithuania’s biggest advantages is the size of its market. In a small country, decision-makers are close at hand, and things that would take months in larger markets, or might not be possible at all, can be achieved here.

At the same time, the discussion pointed to what Lithuanian business could learn from other markets: a stronger focus on relationships. Lithuanians are known for delivering results quickly, but long-term cooperation with clients and partners is built over time, by investing in people and understanding what truly matters to them.

Looking ahead, the speakers named one key challenge: as Lithuanian companies grow and mature, they need to hold on to the hunger and speed that made their growth possible in the first place.

The evening was full of honest exchange and plenty of laughter. We thank our speakers, moderator Paulina Svirnelytė and our partner People Link, as well as everyone who joined the conversation.

The next BMI Alumni event, Stay Sharp Day, takes place on 27 November.  Save the date!
